Bottle redesign increases sustainability

One of the UK’s leading regional breweries, Marston’s Brewery, cares about the environment and glass plays a big role as it still is the most sustainable packaging material. But how could they improve even further?

The glass beer bottles have been the same for years but still there is pressure to improve. Paul McLavin, Marketing and Business Development Lead explains, “We understand our customers are always under pressure to improve their environmental standing. Fortunately, glass is already the most sustainable packaging material they can use and we are constantly improving our processes to offer an even better bottle.”

So where did they find an extra improvement? Well they just redesigned the bottle. Every bottle will now be 20 grams lighter. Doesn’t seem like a lot but it makes a huge difference. On a yearly basis, this saves 700 tonnes of glass and reduces CO2 by 455 tonnes. Impressive!
