Eco-sand and the future of recycling

In 1974, the first glass bottles were collected and recycled in France. That means we have been recycling glass for about 42 years via bottle banks and close loop production. As technology is evolving, so is the glass industry.

A company from the UK, Glassbusters have created a new ‘total convenience’ solution to dispose glass bottles. Their technology simplifies the time-consuming task of placing and replacing empty bottles.

Basically you drop the empty bottle into the compactor, which crushes the glass into exceptionally small pieces of glass. These tiny bits of glass are called ‘Eco-sand’. Eco-sand can be safely held in the hand as it is not sharp. Because the Eco-Sand is small in volume, you can store up to 5,000 beer bottles in the hopper beneath the compactor. On top of that, Glassbusters will collect the Eco-Sand and take it away for re-processing. Imagine how such waste disposal operations can make it much simpler for in-bar or back-house operations. Thus, Glassbusters simplified the process of recycling glass, which makes it even more appealing to use.
