Glass – not just for slippers!

Glass – not just for slippers!

Thousands braved the rain in London to watch the annual Lord Mayor's Show in London on Saturday and what a show it was. We were delighted to be one of the sponsors of the Glass Seller’s float, which featured a model of a giant glass slipper, drawing inspiration from the fairytale classic, Cinderella.

The annual procession dates back to 1215, when King John granted a charter allowing the citizens of London to elect their own mayor. Every year since, the newly elected Lord Mayor of the City of London has travelled from the City of London to Westminster to pledge allegiance to the Crown.

Now in its 801st year, the Lord Mayor’s Show saw around 7,000 people take part to mark the first public engagement of this year’s new Lord Mayor, Andrew Parmley. He is the first Glass Seller member to be elected Lord Mayor in the organisation’s 352-year history.
